"dobrik"

Led by the remarkable and honorable director, Alla Prasolova, Vitebsk Dobrik is a sanctuary that has dedicated itself to advocating for the well-being of animals in Belarus.

Since its establishment in 2011, Dobrik has provided a forever home for dogs and cats in need. Supported solely by generous Belarussian citizens and select organizations, Dobrik faces the challenge of caring for over 400 animals that reside there throughout the seasons. During harsh winters, the shelter can reach its maximum capacity of 500 abandoned and homeless dogs and cats, left vulnerable to the severe Belorussian weather. In the spring and summer, the number decreases to 400. For nearly 12 years, Dobrik has been a haven for approximately 12,000 animals. Every month, they selflessly open their doors to over 70 animals, pushing their resources to the limit to provide these vulnerable creatures with a safe and loving forever home. While some fortunate animals find new families, many others, especially senior dogs, spend their remaining years in Dobrik's care. In honor of the oldest dog named Dobrik, the shelter is named after this kind soul.

THeir mission

Vitebsk Dobrik's goals are to provide a loving forever home for abandoned animals, facilitate successful adoptions, promote spaying and neutering, raise awareness about animal welfare issues, advocate for stronger legal protections, and continually improve their facility to enhance the well-being and comfort of the animals in their care. They strive to create a compassionate society where every animal is valued and nurtured, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.

their struggles...

Financial Burden

Operating as a non-profit organization, Dobrik heavily rely on donations and community support to sustain their operations. The financial burden of providing food, shelter, medical care, and other essential services for over 400 animals is a constant struggle that Dobrik faces every day.

Limited Resources

With inadequate funding and support, Dobrik faces daily challenges in providing food, shelter, and medical care for each and every animal in their care.

Urgent Medical Needs

The high number of animals under Dobrik care requires them to address various medical needs, including vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and treatment for injuries and illnesses. However, the lack of resources poses a constant struggle in meeting these critical requirements.

Limited Adoption Opportunities

Finding loving homes for Dobrik animals is a top priority, but the number of adopters often falls short of the demand. It can be challenging to find suitable forever homes for all the animals in their care, especially older dogs, who often spend their entire lives with them.

Strained Capacity

Dobrik shelter is often stretched to its limits, as they strive to provide comfortable living spaces and proper care for every animal. The sheer number of animals presents ongoing challenges in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment.

Overwhelming Responsibility

As the sole no-kill shelter in Belarus, Dobrik bears the immense responsibility of caring for over 400 abandoned animals who rely on them for their survival and well-being.

Dobrik faces various expenses in order to operate and provide for the well-being
of over 400 animals.
These costs include:

their heartbreaking stories...

Introducing MUHA (Fly), an amazing shelter pet at Dobrik. She's around 7-8 years old and joined the shelter in 2017 as a young mom with cute little puppies. Imagine, they were found on the freezing streets during a harsh winter, with temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees! MUHA kept her babies warm by huddling close and sharing her body heat.

But that's not all – MUHA is a hero in her own way. She's an honorary donor, giving her blood to help other dogs in need. Her selfless act has saved multiple lives, making her a true superstar.

Meet OLEZHKA, a unique and charming resident of Dobrik shelter. Since the early days of the shelter's establishment, OLEZHKA has been a part of the family. She was named after one of the builders who cared for her when she was just a tiny puppy. Back then, there were no fancy enclosures or buildings, only a few cells amidst the construction site.

OLEZHKA was a wild and fluffy puppy who kept her distance from everyone, making it hard to get close to her. Initially assumed to be a boy, she was given a male name which stuck even after it was discovered that she was actually a girl. Now, OLEZHKA is nearly a grandma at around 14 years old.

Meet FLINT, a brave and resilient pup who found his way to the shelter in 2019, but his arrival was marked by a heartbreaking sight. His paw was cut and his eye had suffered severe burns. It was difficult to fathom how someone could harm such an innocent dog. Unfortunately, the search for the culprit yielded no answers, leaving us puzzled and saddened.

We dedicated ourselves to saving and nursing FLINT back to health. Although his eye had to be completely removed, he has put the painful past behind him. Today, FLINT is a handsome and lively fellow, radiating good health and a playful spirit. Our hope is that a loving owner will come forward to provide him with the forever home he deserves.
